Streetlights can reduce the likelihood of an accident by improving drivers' visibility of other nearby vehicles. Turns, lane merges, and lane changes are particularly risky due to a poor visibility of the driver. Even when other cars' headlights are on, it might be difficult for drivers to see other vehicles when it is pitch black outside. Nevertheless, poor lighting might make some traffic dangers worse. Without sufficient lighting, it is significantly more challenging for drivers to see possible road dangers, traffic signs, other automobiles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Potential hazards such as robberies, violent crimes, and car accidents could happen anytime in unlit roads and streets. Many streets in the Philippines, especially in urban areas, lack adequate street lighting which is a cause of the increasing number of car accidents and crimes.
